Apple files Chinese ‘figurative’ patent for Smart Covers

Apple’s Smart Cover for the iPad 2 has been trademarked as a name in most of the major territories where Apple does business — the U.S., Canada, Europe and China — but the company is moving to file a “figurative” trademark on the design, a patent filing in China discovered by Patently Apple shows. Microsoft claims Windows Phone now the only ‘equal’ platform

Microsoft’s Windows Phone president Andy Lees seized the opportunity of the Google buyout of Motorola to claim perceived superiority in smartphones. In a statement, he argued that Android now couldn’t be trusted because Google would invariably give Motorola preferential treatment. O2 Swapping Out UK Retail Store iPhone Displays Through Mid-September

Several MacRumors readers have informed us that wireless carrier O2 has sent out notices to its retail stores announcing that it will be beginning a three-week process to change out the iPhone displays in its UK stores ahead of the launch of the iPhone 5. While we don’t believe that O2 has specific information on a release date for the iPhone 5, which has been rumored to not be appearing until October, it is interesting to note that their preparations should be complete by September 12th. W3 pays $50,000 for violating child privacy in iOS apps

Epson today added to its lineup of professional-level inkjet printers with the introduction of the Stylus Pro 3880 “Signature Worthy” Edition, a 17-inch printer featuring extra-wide color gamuts with nine of Epson’s own UltraChrome K3 inks for more vivid magenta tones as well as deeper hutes of blue and violet.
