Analyst sees Samsung overtaking Nokia in phones during 2012
Samsung should pass Nokia to become the top cellphone maker of any kind in 2012, Sanford Bernstein analyst Mark Newman said in a research note Thursday. After passing Apple in smartphones, it was now due to eclipse Nokia’s once-unassailable lead in cellphones of any kind. Apple files for patents on avatars, ink-based handshakes
A series of new patent applications shows Apple interest in avatars, as well as unusual digital handshakes, reports say. In the latter concept, invisible inks and optical coatings would be integrated into a part of a device such as a glass bezel or an Apple logo. Properly-equipped cameras in another device could then detect the special material, interpreting it as a key for use in sharing data, establishing secure connections, or even identification at retailers. Carrier IQ ‘open’ soon; AT&T, Sprint use it, Apple says gone
