Bloomberg: next iPhone to overhaul look, have larger screen
Before his death, Apple CEO and co-founder Steve Jobs allegedly worked on a redesigned, next-generation iPhone that features a larger screen and LTE compatibility, Bloomberg reports. Three sources have confirmed that the company has ordered larger screens for the next iPhone, but did not indicate exactly what size the new device would use. Current rumors have Apple favoring a four-inch (measured diagonally) screen…. Continue reading
Apple Censoring ‘Jailbreak’ in U.S. iTunes Store Listings
Exploring an observation initially made by iOS hacker @planetbeing , Shoutpedia notes that Apple has mysteriously begun censoring the word “jailbreak” in the U.S. iTunes Store. While not all mentions of the word are affected, the vast majority of them across all content types are currently being censored to “j*******k”. Apple has long objected to the jailbreaking process, which opens up iOS devices for installation of apps from non-Apple approved sources and other system tweaks. But it is unclear what the company is trying to achieve with its iTunes Store censoring, which affects such content as Thin Lizzy’s song and album of that name and an episode of the The Roy Rogers Show from the early 1950s. The censoring appears to only affect the U.S. iTunes Store at the present time, but it has been in effect for over eight hours now. Continue reading

Retina update also coming to MacBook Air, sources say
Apple will also announce Retina display-equipped MacBook Airs at this year’s WWDC, supply chain sources for 9to5Mac say. The company is already believed to be preparing news of Retina MacBook Pros and iMacs, and an Air would complete the lineup of Macs with built-in displays. 9to5 claims that unlike the Pro, though, the Air’s update will be almost entirely about the display, rather than incorporating any major design changes…. Chrome 19 stable release brings cross-platform tab sync
Google has announced that Chrome 19 is now available as a stable build, enabling users to try out the new features that were announced early last month. The latest overhaul to the company’s browser broadens sync capabilities between devices and platforms. Users can open multiple tabs on the desktop browser, then pick up their Android 4.0 phone and access the same content from the mobile Chrome beta…. Continue reading
Next MacBook Air Update to Focus on Retina Displays Too?
With long-running rumors of ultra high-resolution “Retina” displays for Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro receiving a significant boost with reports from several sources surfacing yesterday and similar upgrades now being rumored for the iMac , fans of the MacBook Air have been awaiting word on when they might expect Apple’s smallest Mac notebooks to gain the feature. 9to5Mac now reports that Apple is indeed unsurprisingly planning to bring Retina displays to the MacBook Air, with that upgrade being the most significant change for the next-generation line. Apple’s new MacBook Air will not see major changes across the entire computer like the next-generation MacBook Pro, but this update will truly be all about the Retina Display. Apple is preparing both new 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch models. These new Airs lack notable design changes, but feature fast and power-efficient Ivy Bridge processors and improved graphics engines to support the Retina Display, according to supply chain sources. The new Airs will also use improved Apple internal battery technology in order to support the battery life required by high-pixel-density screens such as the Retina Display, according to sources familiar with prototype versions of the super-thin notebook’s internal components. The report’s source suggests that the updated MacBook Air is unlikely to appear at next month’s Worldwide Developers Conference, with Apple still working to meet the Retina display’s power requirements within the MacBook Air’s thin form factor. Apple is also reportedly undecided on whether it will include USB 3.0 in the next-generation MacBook Air. The USB 3.0 standard, offering higher data transfer speeds, is reportedly being included on the revamped MacBook Pro, but the company is still weighing whether it wants to bring the standard to its lower-priced MacBook Air line. Google is likely to launch a version of its Chrome browser for Apple’s iOS line of devices in the coming months, according to analysts at Macquarie Capital. Rumor: Google creating Game Center clone for Android?
Google may be planning to roll out an app similar to Apple’s Game Center app, a source has told Business Insider. The source contends that Google views such an app as essential to increasing Google’s importance in the mobile gaming sphere. Apple’s Game Center allows iPhone gamers to maintain a constant username applicable across all Game Center-connected games. The app also includes leaderboards and automatic matching for competitive games…. Continue reading
Android in 2006 could have had $10 data plans, no touch
A series of slides during the trial for Oracle’s lawsuit against Google has revealed a very different vision to The Verge of how Android was originally to work as well as some of the problems Google has had since. In 2006, the original concept rendering was substantially different from the 2007-era QWERTY prototype as well as the touch phones that would come to dominate Android. With no mention of touchscreens in the initial plans, they suggest that Google hadn’t significantly considered a touch interface for Android until the iPhone popularized the concept in 2007….
