Rumor: Apple plans more than one low-cost iPhone model
A parts supplier with a good track record of providing advance information on smartphones is now saying that it has heard that Apple is planning more than just a single model of the so-called “low-cost” iPhone. The rumored phone, which has been speculated on for over a year, is said to be aimed at developing markets where pre-paid phones and plans dominate and is thought to be largely plastic-based, but have most of the same functionality as current iPhone models — but cost around $330-$400, as much as 50 percent less than the off-contract price of a current iPhone…. T-Mobile stores see extra traffic on iPhone 5 launch day
A number of US T-Mobile stores saw small lineups today for the carrier’s launch of the iPhone 5, reports say. The information is confirmed by photos, first-hand accounts, and calls to some locations. In some cases, according to AppleInsider, shops reported having a “full store” for some time after opening. Documents obtained by TmoNews reveal that T-Mobile is limiting orders to one phone per person every 14 days, and that it has over 240,000 launch units to sell…. Continue reading

Apple among 60 major companies backing gay marriage
Apple is joining with at least 60 other large corporations in submitting a filing to the Supreme Court in support of extending marriage rights to gay people and against California’s Proposition 8, continuing the iPhone maker’s long record of supporting equal rights for homosexual couples. Other “friend of the court” filings are coming from diverse sources, including one that includes over 75 well-known Republican leaders — including New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Utah Governor Jon Huntsman, among others…. As a regular iOS user over that period of time, I have to confess that I am one of those that have become bored with its sameness. However, that does not make it fundamentally less effective or efficient than it was when it was first unveiled…. Continue reading
