Ask iLounge: Converting Purchased Videos to 1080p HD

Q: I have purchased a lot of videos from iTunes over the years, some standard definition and some in the original iTunes 720p HD format. I know that iTunes has never offered a way to convert my standard definition shows over to HD without repurchasing them completely, which I always thought was a bit of a gyp. I read somewhere (I think it was on your site) that I could convert my 720p HD movies and TV shows to 1080p HD versions, but I can’t… Continue reading

News: Apple working on two 4-inch iPhone prototypes

Apple has at least two roughly 4-inch iPhone prototypes in testing, according to a new report. 9to5Mac claims that it has “independently heard” that the two prototypes sport 3.95-inch displays, which are the same 1.94 inches wide, but 3.45 inches tall, giving the display an aspect ratio close to 16:9. The resolution of the screen is said to be 1136 x 640 — to account for the extra height while keeping the same pixel density; the… Continue reading

Ask iLounge: Find My Friends always reports home location

Q: The Apple “Find My Friends” app doesn’t seem to be working properly for my partner and I. We’ve both installed it and set it up on each of our iPhones and my iPad, and I can find her accurately almost all the time from either of my devices, but when she looks for me I’m almost always showing at home, even when I’m several miles away. Weirder yet, this isn’t always the case… it seems to be hit or miss… Continue reading

Ask iLounge: Creating an iTunes Match library from an external hard drive

Q: I’m not sure where to begin here. I have not used iTunes or any Apple products before. I have my entire music collection stored on an external hard drive – about 80GB. Files are in one main folder, then sub-folders for each CD by artist name. I just downloaded and installed iTunes and subscribed to the iTunes Match feature, figuring there isn’t enough room for all of the music on my laptop’s hard drive. I thought that may be a… Continue reading
